Raddicombe Lodge

Situation
Raddicombe Lodge is set in its own grounds, overlooking National Trust land to the sea, with views across Lyme Bay and Start Bay, tucked away in peaceful surroundings yet conveniently situated midway between the picturesque harbour towns of Brixham and Dartmouth. It is located close to the South West Coast Path, National Trust properties at Coleton Fishacre, Greenway (the home of Agatha Christie) and the Dart Valley Trail. Raddicombe offers luxury accommodation, first class service, en-suite rooms with TV, Clock Radio, Hairdryer and Refreshment Trays all of which come as standard.

Although operating on a bed and breakfast basis, we do offer evening meals 2 nights per week by arrangement. Your hosts Kay & Graham Sowerby are on hand to help with any aspect of your holiday, from suggested walks to advice about boat trips and places to visit in the area.....nothing is too much trouble and their pleasure is derived from making your stay at Raddicombe an experience to remember.

A private car park is located at the rear of the lodge, which is a bonus for a B&B in this area.

Things to do
Life in Brixham centres on the harbour and the bustle of one of Britain's busiest fishing ports. You can wander around the many harbour side shops, watch the fishermen unloading their daily catch, or take a peek at the work of the artists who gather at Artist's Corner. Sample freshly caught seafood from one of the quayside's fish stalls, or relax in a pub or restaurant and watch life go by. Away from the harbour you can lose yourself in a maze of narrow, winding streets, and within walking distance from the town centre you will find some of the Riviera's most spectacular scenery. Sandy beaches and secluded coves give way to the towering cliffs at Berry Head, offering breathtaking views of Torbay and the starting point of the stretch of dramatic coast path that winds its way round to the village of Kingswear.

The South Hams of South Devon is an area of exceptional beauty and contrast with river estuaries, rolling hills and thatched cottages surrounding the lovely old towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury and Ivybridge. The area enjoys one of the mildest climates in the whole of Britain. Indeed, the name "Hamme" is an old English word meaning enclosed or sheltered place. With Spring arriving early, long summers, warm autumns and mild winters, you can safely choose to visit at any time of year. With sixty miles of spectacular coastline and beaches, a rural landscape that has hardly changed in centuries and the majestic granite slopes of Dartmoor, the South Hams is a unique area worthy of its national status as a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

Torbay Race Weeks sailing regatta will be held in 2008 from Friday 22nd August to 27th August. A 3 day Torbay championship. RNLI Pursuit Race, Corporate and Team Races, Torbay Fun Race and the Passage to Dartmouth Race. Lots happening ashore including fireworks around the bay.

South Devon Coastline

Dartmouth and Kingswear are a pair of bustling towns on the River Dart joined by frequent ferries. Steeply wooded hills drop down to the river estuary where sailboats and brightly coloured trawlers bob at anchor. Seawards you can glimpse the cliff top church in the shadow of a protective castle and upstream the majestic Britannia Royal Naval College stands guard over the pretty town.

From Kingswear Station a steam train puffs its way alongside the sparkling river and over all reigns an atmosphere of quintessentially English eccentricity and elegance.

Totnes is widely known for such essentials of good living as whole foods, fine arts, antiques, second hand and antiquarian books, handmade shoes, ceramics, unusual boutiques, handmade furniture, musical instruments, crystals and complimentary therapies. Explore the Friday and Saturday Markets below the Civic Hall for a feast of bargains.

The town enjoys good road and rail communications, and is within easy reach of both Dartmoor and the sea, making it an ideal holiday centre at any time of the year. Totnes has always been a market town and centre of trade for the surrounding countryside, and this is still the case. A full range of shopping and banking facilities can be found in and around the main streets. The shops are friendly and individual, as befits a place of such character. Traditional butchers, greengrocers and bakers can be found, all emphasising quality and customer care. Locally made, healthily prepared food and drink can be bought here, fresh from the producer.
